Map of the Mind

D-1 'til Hospitalization (U.S. Presidential Election 2020)

The majority of the population who undergo scoliosis surgery are girls around the age of 14. I am rather on the later end of the age spectrum for which this surgery is targeted. Maybe that is why I don’t feel as intimidated or anxious about the surgery itself. I hear the parents and patients equally feel devastated weeks pre-operation, but I feel quite composed and tranquil for someone about to go through a major surgery. I also don’t want my guardian, which will be my mother, to spend tireless nights looking after me. But another part of me really seeks that attention and care from my parents. I’ve never been hospitalized after the age of 10, so I’m not quite sure what the protocol for a 20-something-year-old to behave or expect to receive from her parents is, when they’re going through a major surgery. As I am not a teenage girl anymore (haven’t been one for over 3 years anyways), I am resolved to keeping a strong mind and spending lots of time exploring my mind, finding peace and serenity within me once again. It is time to spend without distractions and unnecessary noises around me. Thank god!
